SAM Academy is thrilled to announce its upcoming Ballet Folklorico Dance, Music, and Art Showcase, a captivating journey through the diverse cultural landscapes of Mexico, all presented through the vibrant lens of traditional dance! This unique series will delve into the history, traditions, styles, and techniques of three distinct Mexican regions, offering an enriching experience for all ages.
The series kicks off on June 21 with a focus on the coastal region of Colima, where participants will explore the traditional music, colorful attire, and dynamic footwork that define this style. Alongside dance instruction, the workshop will provide historical context and artistic activities inspired by the region’s vibrant culture.

Next, on July 12th, we transport ourselves to the stunning peninsula of Baja California Sur. Discover the vibrant and often playful dances that reflect the region’s lively spirit and connection to the sea. We’ll analyze the specific techniques and rhythms that make this style so distinctive, giving participants a true appreciation for its cultural significance.
The final session on July 19 turns to the Yucatán Peninsula, where we explore the elegant and symbolic dance forms native to this southern region. Rooted in both Maya and Spanish traditions, Yucatán’s folklórico style offers a unique opportunity to examine how music, dress, and movement tell stories of identity and heritage.

All workshops will take place on Saturdays and are open to all ages, making this a perfect opportunity for families to learn and experience the beauty of Ballet Folklorico together. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer, a curious beginner, or simply someone who appreciates cultural art, this showcase promises to be an unforgettable experience.
Don’t miss this incredible chance to connect with Mexican culture through the power of dance, music, and art. Join us at SAM Academy and let the rhythm of Mexico move you!
This workshop series is funded by the Rural Arts Access Fund Grant and by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Fresno Arts Council.
