SAM Academy

On the morning of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 19, 2026, SAM Academy was proud to host a meaningful private mariachi performance for board members of the Fresno Chapter of the National Police Officers Association (NPOA). The special ceremony celebrated not only music and youth achievement, but also the enduring spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose legacy reminds us of the power of community service, unity, and giving back.

The event culminated in a generous $500 donation in support of SAM Academy’s Mariachi Los Caballitos, reinforcing the shared values of leadership, inspiration, and community investment.

A Morning of Music, Reflection, and Community

The private performance featured Mariachi Los Caballitos, who performed more than five traditional and contemporary mariachi selections for the NPOA board members. The ensemble showcased not only their musical skill, but also the dedication, discipline, and cultural pride that define SAM Academy’s mariachi program.

Throughout the morning, board members from the Fresno Chapter NPOA took time to speak directly with the young musicians, offering words of encouragement and inspiration. Several members shared heartfelt messages, telling the ensemble how inspiring their performance was and encouraging them to continue pursuing music and their artistic passions.

Moments like these reinforce the importance of arts education and mentorship, and the lasting impact that community support can have on young musicians.

A Connection Sparked at Fresno’s Tower Theatre

One of the most meaningful aspects of the morning was the story behind the connection. A board member of the Fresno Chapter NPOA shared that they first encountered Mariachi Los Caballitos during a performance on December 21st at Fresno’s historic Tower Theatre. That performance left a lasting impression and ultimately led to this private event and donation.

This speaks to the power of live performance—not just as entertainment, but as a way to build relationships, create opportunities, and inspire community investment in youth arts programs.

Family, Leadership, and Gratitude

Family members of the students were present for the check presentation, adding an emotional and celebratory layer to the evening. Their presence highlighted the strong support system behind each musician and reinforced the idea that programs like Mariachi Los Caballitos are built on community, family, and shared commitment.

During the event, remarks were shared by SAM Academy’s Media Director and President, both of whom expressed sincere gratitude to the Fresno Chapter NPOA for their generosity and belief in the mission of SAM Academy. They also spoke about the importance of sustaining arts education opportunities for youth, particularly in culturally rooted programs like mariachi.

Supporting Mariachi Education and Youth Development

The $500 donation from the Fresno Chapter National Police Officers Association directly supports Mariachi Los Caballitos, helping provide instruction, instruments, performance opportunities, and resources that allow students to grow both musically and personally.

SAM Academy is proud to be a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization, dedicated to providing accessible, high-quality arts education to youth in our community. Donations like this ensure that students can continue to learn, perform, and represent their culture with pride and excellence.
